Lasengle has officially introduced Dante Alighieri as the new 5-star Pretender Servant for the Caldea Boys Collection (CBC) 2025 event in the Japanese version of Fate/Grand Order. The legendary Italian poet, best known for The Divine Comedy, takes on a unique role that blends his literary legacy with the game’s intricate lore.
A Legendary Poet Turned Servant
Dante’s inclusion in Fate/Grand Order isn’t just another historical nod—it’s a deep dive into the themes of his own writing. His Pretender class fits perfectly, as he is both Dante the author and Dante the character from his own works. Lasengle’s decision to make him a shape-shifter of sorts is an interesting twist that aligns with the blurred lines between reality and fiction in The Divine Comedy.
Kamome Shirahama, the acclaimed manga artist behind Witch Hat Atelier, is responsible for Dante’s character design. The delicate yet powerful aesthetic of her art style adds a new layer to the Servant’s presence. Meanwhile, Shoya Chiba lends his voice to Dante. Fans may recognize him from roles such as Sethos in Genshin Impact, Akihiko in Wind Breaker, and Kou in Toilet-Bound Hanako-kun.
A Unique Skill Set with Heaven and Hell Mechanics
Dante’s gameplay revolves around his ability to alter the battlefield, a rare mechanic in FGO. His second skill allows him to change the environment between Heaven and Hell, offering different buffs depending on the chosen state.
- Heaven: Restores HP for all allies every turn, increases Arts performance, and boosts critical damage.
- Hell: Charges Dante’s NP gauge every turn, enhances Buster performance, and increases NP damage for the entire team.
This dual-mode gameplay adds a strategic depth that players will need to carefully manage, depending on their team composition and battle requirements.
Noble Phantasm: A Direct Reference to Inferno
Dante’s Noble Phantasm is titled Lasciate Ogne Speranza, Vol Ch’Intrate—a direct reference to the infamous phrase from Inferno: “Abandon Hope All Ye Who Enter Here.” This attack delivers powerful multi-hit Arts-based damage while applying additional effects based on the battlefield state.
The animation sequence is as dramatic as one would expect, plunging enemies into a surreal vision of the Gates of Hell and the trials Dante himself described in his writings.
Availability and Story Gacha Details
Dante Alighieri is currently available in the CBC 2025 banner, but he will eventually be added to the Story Gacha. However, there’s a catch—players must first complete Ordeal Call IV, which is scheduled to release in Spring 2025. Until then, this banner is the only way to summon him.
Additionally, Okada Izo, the 3-star Assassin, is featured on the same banner. Unlike many other 3-star Servants, Izo will not be added to the Friend Points gacha, making him a limited and more valuable unit for collectors.
Fate/Grand Order Continues to Expand Its Historical Roster
With every new Servant release, Fate/Grand Order continues to weave real-world history and mythology into its grand narrative. Dante’s inclusion is not just a nod to literature but a creative reinterpretation of his own journey through the afterlife.
For now, he remains exclusive to the Japanese server, but global players can expect him to arrive in 2026 when CBC 2025 is rerun internationally.
